ADECEF: Latin America is one of the market leaders in the implementation of QoS in roaming services
Miami/Buenos Aires, October 1st, 2010 - National or international roaming services are an important source of additional income for operators all over the world, since they allow the operators to generate additional revenue both from their own users and other operators´ users. The quality of service (QoS), however, is not always consistent for the user – a situation which often results in users attempting to circumvent these services by using other mechanisms to secure continuous communication; such as acquiring prepaid cards in the local market, when normally they should be roaming.
The GSM Association (GSMA) offers its operators some mechanisms to homogenize the quality of roaming services between all GSM operators. The IR.81, as is termed the “language” which permits the standardization of the quality of roaming services between operators, is simple to implement and associated financial costs are shared between operators – says Pablo Maffei, general manager of Adecef, the market leader in Argentina in the implementation of IR.81 and member of the working group within GSMA dealing with this topic.
Whilst its effectuation is not entirely idyllic, nevertheless some implementations in Latin America, the region that, along with the Asian Pacific area, leads the market regarding quality of roaming services, are positive factors to facilitate the growth and future implementations of IR.81, comments Maffei.
